Sensation

from Rimbaud

Through the blue summer nights, I walked along the routes,
Prickled by the reeds, leaving tracks in the grass :
In a reverie, I felt the freshness underfoot.
My hatless head let the winds cleanse it as they passed.

I did not speak a word, nor did I think it then :
But a boundless love had surged into my life,
And I went off, far off, like a gypsy caravan,
By way of Nature, content, as if beside my wife.
